design evaluation

CMYK ( Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and key): Is a subtractive colour model used in colour printing and is also a way of describing the process of printing. Key is a term for the colour black.

RGB ( red, green and blue): is a additive colour model where the 3 colours is bought together in different ways to reproduce various colours.

The benefit to sending a pdf file to a printer via email is because it will then allow you the ability to share the file with other users. The positive to this is that it will allow for people to give you feedback on what is right about your creation and what could have been done better.

DPI stands for dots per inch and the reason why the file for photoshop should be sent at 300 dpi is because it is maximum quality.

These 3 images are my 2 bookmark designs and the original sketch. The first one is the front of the bookmark in the original world war z colour. The second bookmark includes the synopsis and a black colour with red text to give a contrast in style and the text makes it feel like the back of a book. I believe the first image was very successful and generally showcased world war z in a simple and fun style. The second image however was less successful the use of colours was correct i feel but the text could have been laid out in a more organised fashion. The style of text i used was arial 12 mythriad pro regular the main eye catching feature is the red text. Visually i created zombies that are laid all over the Z logo. I believe that my use of imagery reflects the theme perfectly as it does not steer away from the story. The style is abstract as the theme is not currently realistic and the style is creative. To create this i began with creating various different sketches with a pencil out of the sketches this ended up being the one that i favoured most. To create the final design i traced the World War Z logo and then traced random zombie designs inside the Z. I then used a black pen to fill along the lines and rub out the pencil lines. Then i used a camera to take a picture of the design and then upload it to my computer where i edited the design on photoshop. Once i edited the first image adding red to the Z and black to the zombies i proceeded to go for a black colour for the second image and added red text to give a synopsis of the story. While the designs have been successfully created the one thing that didn't go well was the text as the synopsis was hard to place in a way that was organised and neat. Inspirations for both this design and other designs have come from designers such as Peter Blake and Kate Moross there way of using colour and shapes is something i really adore.

These are 2 screen grabs showing the colours i used and the text i used.

The 4 images above are my 4 potential designs i ended up settling on the 3rd design because it was simple and effective. The red seen throughout was originally meant to be for the 1st one but leaked through the page causing it to get on the other designs unfortunately. I did change the 3rd design to a degree by adding zombies on the logo and making the title smaller and moving it to the bottom of the Z as seen in the final design.

If i didn't have to worry about money and time i would change the Z to be bold and 3d and i would also reorganise the synopsis and choose the words more carefully.

Skills i have developed from this project is time management skills, patience and most importantly skills in drawing and photoshop. I feel that this project has been very handy in my IT skills too allowing them to adapt and grow.

Overall i feel the best part of my design was the actual logo itself i am proud of the Z because it is pretty much identical to that seen on the actual World War Z logo including the colour.

Other projects
Also during this course we completed a set of other designs such as a 10 year plan and a avatar edited design. I also in the early lessons of the class as seen below created designs like a big s and squiggly lines covered in letters. Also edited images of Daleks, monkeys and even a waterfall. The editing i am most proud of is of tiger from Winnie the Pooh. Techniques used throughout include using paint bucket and paint tools to colour designs and also using edit to change the background of images and the lighting. Systems used include indesign, photoshop and illustrator. Kate Moross over all is my favourite designer because of her colourful designs and crazy themes. These works including the tasks completed can be seen through the other blogs that i uploaded covering these pieces of work. Overall i feel these projects have given me skills that i never had when it comes to ICT it has also allowed my skills in photoshop to get. I think that with the experience gained by this course and with the skills earned that i will go into future projects with a similar attitude to this one as i feel that this course has given me the skills i need to succeed.
