viral marketing task 2

Idea: Mass Effect The Remastered Trilogy

Tag line: Space your journey

I will be coming up with a viral marketing campaign that will help to promote the franchise Mass Effect. The main campaign elements i will be covering are viral video, posters, flyers, social media elements, collectibles,ARG  games, and merchandise ideas.

Viral Video: The video will begin with the people on the citadel and a group of other planets all doing there daily routine. This is shown through a montage switching back and forth for about 1 minute. The voiceover who speaks throughout the video is a news reporter and says "Good morning what a lovely day in the galaxy today i hope everyone is doing swell". All of a sudden reapers which are the main antagonists of the trilogy of games attack the planets shown and the citadel. The montage continues this time showing all the people shown acting calmly enjoying there day in massive panic trying to either get away or fight. The voiceover then begins to panic himself telling everyone to get somewhere safe. All of a sudden the specific characters from each area are saved by individual characters from the main group of characters The citadel is Ashley Williams, Palavin is Garrus and finally the video ends with Shepard jumping to the scene on Earth saving a group of civilians. The final shot of the video is of Shepard posing to the camera with reapers attacking and Earth in flames. Finally the mass effect logo pops up with a release date below and the tag line Space your journey. In the top corner will be a promotion trying to persuade the viewer to pre order and showing what you will get if you pre order.

Collectibles: The plan is to realise 2 different types of collectibles theres common which will come with gaming magazines and in toy stores. The gaming magazine collectibles will be either a small action figure or a plastic model of a ship. In toy stores there will be ships, action figures as well as models of the citadel and various other famous aspects of mass effect. The other type is the rare collectible which is limited edition and expensive. Some can be won if you win a competition which will consist of answering a question and if you get it right you will be added to a group of other fans who got the question correct the winner will get the limited edition collectible while the others will get a consolation prize which will be a set of common collectibles. Another way to get the rare collectibles is to pre order and purchase the special editions of Mass Effect Remastered. the 3rd and final way is to purchase online on the EA store but there is only a limited amount.

Merchandise ideas: For merchandise i would like to cover a lot of different areas such as toys, models, phone cases, clothing and gifts. All will be sold in game shops, toy shops, big chain stores and phone shops.

Tie ins: Mass Effect remastered is advertised by Nasa where they will help promote the product. Also specific locations such as the space centre in Orlando will also assist to advertise and partner the game.

Posters: There will be 2 different posters made to advertise different aspects of the game one will be the main protagonists and the other poster will be devoted to the antagonists.

Arg games: There will be 2 companion games released to tease the game. One will be a mobile game that will involve defending a human settlement from the antagonistic races of the game. This will be a RTS style game that will involve strategy and planning much like games such as Total War Empire. The second game will be a Facebook quiz game that will begin as a project called Bioware it is a quiz game asking questions about previous Bioware games and at the end of the quiz will be a link. This link will take you to the mass effect remastered trilogy website announcing the game.

Social media elements: Throughout development developers and various gaming websites will promote the game and the franchise. Also Facebook and twitter will add posters and developer comments regularly. Youtube will add trailers every few months which will also be added to Facebook and twitter.

inspiring artists

                                                                Sir Peter Blake

Peter graduated from the royal college of art in 1956 having also completed his national service. He received the levehulme research award ti study popular art whilst travelling around Europe. As well as working and exhibiting his art work he has also spent several years teaching in various London art schools. He has been doing one man shows since the 70s exhibiting his art work. In 2002 Peter Blake received a knighthood. Sir Peter Blake's work has been heavily influenced by popular culture and what is going on in the world at the time of the art being made. Film,TV,Radio and Music are his main inspirations behind his art work. The most common thing about Peter Blake's work is that they are dominated by bright colours every single part is filled by a bright eye catching colour. Also there is no empty spaces either everything is taken up either by a colour or a design or logo. I love Sir Peter Blake's work because it is fun, crazy and beautiful. I really like how the work he does is effected by what is going on in the world at the time. When i look at his work it makes me smile as even if the theme isn't always positive the colours manage to add a sense of beauty to the art work.

This image is a example of Peter Blake work as you can see it is very typical of a peter Blake art piece with a explosion of colour all over the art. You can see a sense of realism in the form of the woman possibly posing like that in real life while being sketched around to create a life like design. Also in the art around the woman waist is a band saying London which gives you more information about the story. The techniques that have been used in this piece includes bright fun colours that have been used as borders to surround the portrait in the middle this is to give this art piece the resemblance of a physical frame. The 3d text is to give it the fun crazy design that Peter blake is known for.

                                                                     Jeff Fisher
Jeff Fisher is an Australian artist who studied Fine art and film at Preston institute of technology in the 1970s. He stayed at London for a while before settling down in France in 1993. The main designs Jeff fisher does is Book designs creating art for Book covers. His main areas that he exhibits his work in is London and Paris. His main in influences and inspirations are Milton Glaser, Paul Rand, Rick Tharp, Saul Bass and Nigel Holmes. Jeff fishers style is very different to that of Peter Blake as there is a much more limited colour palette with some art pieces having barely any colour at all. Also the themes are not based on pop culture at all but rather based on events that have happened in his life or relate to his views. They are often less positive too sometimes giving a moody feel most likely due to the colour scheme used. I like his designs because of how complex they can be and how it leaves you to work out the meaning for yourself.

This art piece is called Jeff's brain and as you can see there is a very small amount of colour used with only 3 colours used white, black and grey. There is big bald writing at the bottom which gives the title of the art piece. You can see a unique design through the merger of different shapes and patterns. The background is very plain so that you do not get distracted and can focus on the main part of the image.

Lou Beach

Lou Beach is a American illustrator who spent much of his youth in New York. He spent much of his time riding bikes and creating snow forts. He was a disappointment to his teachers in school often slacking in class and not realising his full potential. Along with a hippie couple he fled to California where he worked in a book store as a clerk. It was through this placement that he met the surrealists who gave him opportunities to go to galleries, museums and scouring art books. In the end he finally began to create art of his own. He has since made art for records, books and newspapers/magazines. His main inspirations are Popular culture and experiences in his life. His professional influences are his own family he has a family of fellow artists known as the Lou beaches. His style of work is collages and is heralded as one of the greatest collage makers of all time. He uses collages to essentially create different spins on well known images and art work as well as creating his own unique works. He doesn't do much to change the colours keeping them plain or natural and adding layers over the images to add something crazy and unique. I like his work a lot simply because its something different and very simple.

I like this image because it is a weird spin on a photograph of a man from older times. The eyes have essentially been duplicated and covered around his head and beard. The colour is completely natural with the eyes being the only editing keeping it nice and simple.

viral marketing campaign task 1

task 1:
Tron legacies viral marketing campaign involved multiple forms of digital promotions. During the campaign the production company released many trailers to showcase the film and add hype to the movie. Trailers are important as it gives viewers a small preview of what to expect in the movie it also helps to give viewers of the trailer a decision on whether the movie is worth watching or not which the trailers here does a very effective job of. They heavily promoted in there trailers that Tron Legacy will be able to be viewed in IMAX. Tron Legacy was also promoted on twitter and Facebook via tweets from distribution companies, production companies and actors themselves. Also pop up adds on websites and Facebook also helped to promote the movie Facebook also had Facebook pages promote the movie allowing fans to follow production. This is effective as it gives fans and viewers a chance to voice there opinions and connect with the production of the film during filming. Thanks to films being promoted on social media it has allowed for the films to go through slight changes due to unhappy fans being able to voice there opinion. As well as digital communications Tron Legacy also created a real life arcade just like seen in the movie this has been heralded as one of the greatest viral marketing stunts ever and managed to attract a lot of attention for the movie. Cross media convergence has been a important part of the viral marketing campaign for Tron Legacy allowing them to use a mix of different ways to promote there movie trailers, games, special programmes, posters and stunts all to get people excited for its release.
