Tim Marrs Research

Tim Marrs used photoshop to design this work. This second image which relates to London life is much different to the Portsmouth example. First of all rather than a calming and plain image this one is a explosion of images relating to London life ( photo montage). The people and objects such as the traffic lights bottle and cars have all been photoshopped into the image to add a contrast of realism and creativity. The crop tool was used so that these images could be neatly pasted in with no rough edges around the image. The theme of this is a  advert for beefeater hence the beefeater bottle and the initials in the bottom corner. Tim Marrs is a graphical designer based in London who incorporates photoshop into his work. His work is mainly digital but does use photography and drawing techniques. The way he uses photoshop and the colours he uses will be my inspiration for my work.

Mr Nutcase evaluation

For this unit we had to sketch and create a design for a Mr. nutcase phone case. The design had to be music themed. My Main inspiration was Killy Killford while his designs was very different compared to what I made the use of colors and scruffy feel is what I wanted to add to my design so it could be suitable for a target audience that consists of both kids and teenagers.

I began this project by doing some research into phone case designs to see how the design is laid out on the phone case and what sort of images they usually go for. I also researched artists such as Killy Killford to explore different styles that I could add to my design. After a lengthy amount of time researching ideas I decided to do a guitar as it is a popular instrument and is usually the instrument that people usually picture when they think of music. Also I felt that a guitar could fit on a phone case really well because of its shape.

I began by drawing various different sketches of possible instruments including a drum and triangle. I then made a draft sketch of a guitar. To ensure that my final drawing would be the best that it can be I opted to trace a guitar using the computer screen. The details and additional art I created myself. Then I uploaded the drawing and using Photoshop I added the colors. Finally using Mr. Nutcase I uploaded the phone case deign and screenshotted the design adding it to blog.

I think that my design was successfully created because the idea I imagined and had originally planned was able to come to fruition. I used Photoshop to the best of my abilities and didn’t have many issues using the system. Also I am quite proud of my drawing I think I was able to create a guitar that was pretty accurate to a real life guitar which as someone who does not draw often makes me feel more positive about my own abilities. In terms of what I could improve I believe that I could have been more trusting in my own abilities being more independent rather than asking for assistance when I already knew I could do it. Finally I think that I could have had a better use of colors in my final design and placed the guitar on the phone case in a way that would make it look less stretched.

My final Mr Nutcase design/social media

This is my final mr nutcase phone design it is inspired by artist Killy Killford with the bright colours and explosive design.

Here is proof of my promotion on social media with a response from the college

Killy Kilford

Killy Kilford is a artist who is heavily inspired by music. Based in New York City Killy travels with bands and singers and creates paintings based on there performances and songs. His style and way of getting inspiration is something that has inspired my ideas for my music phone case.

My music phone case pattern and development

Above is the screen grabs of my development for the phone case pattern design. I opted to duplicate layers of 4 of a electric guitar with each being a different colour and pattern.
